Education for global citizenship

A major feature of the UCL Academy will be its central commitment to the concept of ‘education for global citizenship’. The school will provide an education that actively prepares students to respond to the intellectual, social and personal challenges that they will encounter throughout their future lives and careers.

The school will use its curriculum and the school ethos to shape students’ understanding of their social responsibilities, the nature of moral and social leadership and what it means to be a ‘global citizen’. In particular, students will learn to be:

  • Critical and creative thinkers
  • Ambitious, but also idealistic and committed to ethical behaviour
  • Sensitive to cultural difference

UCL Academy staff will be encouraged to teach all courses with an emphasis on social context, and to establish strong links with schools in different parts of the world through internet links and exchange arrangements.

UCL Academy students will be encouraged to undertake work in the local Camden community, and to become involved in decision-making within their Academy.
